ARCHIVE INTERVIEW

How did you get started in music?
My Mother and sister were in Gospel groups, through that experience I learned vocal production/ arrangement, and song structure. Fast forward a few years later I was writing a lot of poetry, after some poems got published I mixed my families musical  history with…with poetry, welcome to Hip Hop.

What do you want the hip hop fans to gain from your music?
I’d like fans to take away from my music something they did not know about life before they heard the record, whether it’s something about civil rights, slavery, open-relationships, the Bible, the Government, Aliens…or whatever may inspire thinkers.

What do you think about the music industry overall at this time?
Well I understand what it is…and today the “Music” industry is bought and sold every single day. Anything that has the potential wealth at stake will eventually be corrupted by greed, power, etc., this business is no exception; But when you know that then you have to figure out how to win at that game…but make no mistake, just playing that game changes people, whether you win or not.

These days a lot of artists are telling us lies in 99% of the songs they make, what percentage of your lyrics would you say are not real in your music and Why?
A lie to me in music is something that didn’t happen or about something you don’t have and never had etc. I agree the “fake it ‘til you make it” is the same as its always been, the jeans just became a lot tighter. As far as my lyrics go I will tell you that about 98% of my lyrics are true and honest, the reason I say 98% versus 100% is because no one is perfect and Im sure I may have stretched the truth somewhere in the last 15 or so years…lol. I’m a writer…like a REAL writer and so for me the truth is so much more intriguing than a lie, with a lie you can construct a perfect scenario, the truth is ugly but exciting a lot of the time.
