Interview Snippet

How did you get started in music?
I was always involved in music from a very young age. I use to do little performances with my cousins at church and would always participate in school talent shows. Then I started to see younger artists were getting record deals and I actually felt like I had a chance to get signed so I began recording music.

Who’s your biggest musical influences and why? Jay-z. His wittiness, confidence and overall business sense has always been something that I looked up to. It was even better when he married Beyonce’ (who I believe is one of the greatest entertainers of all time). Lauryn Hill was someone that I would always listen to and had lots of respect for as well.

What do you think about the music industry overall at this time? I like the individuality, sub-genres and how you can directly reach the fans by way of social media. The fans decide who is successful now. It use to be gatekeepers who decides which artist could be a star. Now all it takes is a strong fan-base.

Tell us about some of the collaborations you have out there? I’ve collaborated with several artists in the past that I really looked up to growing up. My most recent collaboration was with the R&B singer Sammie (he now goes by Leigh Bush). I loved his music since I was like 10 years old and he was only a few years older than me so when I was presented with the opportunity to work with him as an adult was really special for me.
