3 REASONS ASPIRING ARTIST SHOULD ACTIVELY “SEEK” PLACEMENT Via MEDIA OUTLETS!

If you’ve been making music and your at the point where you feel like you need to reach more potential listeners; a great way to accomplish that is by securing placements on relevant blogs, podcasts and internet radio show.

Now I know you might be thinking to yourself “man all those outlets charge fees for features”. And you would be halfway correct.

EXPOSURE TO NEW AUDIENCES

As we all know when it comes to hip hop media outlets such as magazines, radio, blogs etc. they all have different audience sizes along with different content structures. But one thing they have in common is that they document hip hop culture.

For an aspiring artist pursuing a music career these types of outlets can provide a substantial amount of exposure towards building up an artists notoriety in the culture.

Bottom line is if your looking to build up your fan base in the internet era of music you’ll need placement within media outlets relevant to your field; and those would be hip hop culture outlets.

The more placements, the more opportunity for fan base growth.

TIP: Be sure to always have an up to date “Press Kit” available.

STRENGTHEN YOUR SEO VISIBILITY

SEO or “Search Engine Optimization” plays a major role in the online growth of pretty much any business. Therefore as an artist you should be looking at yourself as a business. I can’t tell you the number of potential opportunities your missing out on because your information doesn’t show up when some types your name into a search engine such as Google or Bing.

Until you can get a better understanding of SEO and how it works I would advise you to make sure your social media bios for Twitter and Instagram are matching along with your YouTube page. And as for Facebook and YouTube you should include the long version of your bio, this will all begin to assist you in building up your brand awareness as an artist.

Also seek out opportunities to be posted on as many music blogs and alternative blogs in relation to your goals as an artist as possible.

Over time this will provide a great online fingerprint of your work and help people discover you.

GENERATE NEW OPPORTUNITIES

The difference between success and being overlooked in hip hop music is often due to missed vs taken opportunity.  Therefore one of your top goals outside of creating quality music is to consistently position yourself for new opportunities.

Gaining placements on blogs, magazines, and podcast are great ways to accomplish the task of generating new opportunities as well as building a fanbase you can call your own.

Therefore having this understanding of the important role media outlets play with in an artist growth will continuously present new opportunities for you.

CONCLUSION

Bottom line is that media outlets; big and/or small play a major role in the growth of artists and brands especially aspiring artist working fan base growth and brand awareness.

Having active social media profiles are a must for artist in today’s online music streaming era. Growing those profiles with supporters can be very difficult therefore you’ll need help to do so, and gaining placements in media will be your x-factor.

Note: It’s o.k to seek out media placement, artist and brands do it everyday. It’s all about how you present yourself.
